Emphethweni Medical Centre (Pty) Ltd was co-founded by Mrs N Mchunu and the late Dr ST Mchunu who had more than 15 years of experience in the medical field focusing in Clinical and Occupational Health Services.

 

We are a company for the patients, the people and professionals. Our priority is to provide a meaningful and sustainable professional difference in the health, safety and wellness of employees. From ensuring the compliance to preventative measures and healthcare screenings to chronic disease management.

Medical Surveillance

 

We conduct pre-employment, periodic, exit, baseline medical assessments and are performed in accordance with the occupational risk profile.

 

This assessment may include Medical history, Physical examination, Audiometry screening, Vision screening, lung function test, Multi drug testing , X-rays

Mobile Occupational Services

 

Our qualified team travels anywhere in South Africa whether you are in urban/semi-urban or rural areas, they will come where you are based with a completely equipped mobile unit and conduct all medical assessments on-site and issue the certificates of fitness.

 

Mobile x-ray is available where required.

A face-to-face professional counselling can be arranged for employees to see a professional counsellor at a time and place that is most suitable to them. Our national network of affiliates ensures a counsellor is available close to home or work. Trauma support is also available.

Onsite healthcare clinics (occupational & primary healthcare)

 

The onsite healthcare clinics are expertly equipped with all the medical equipment relevant to your needs, this may include x-ray machines, audio, vision and lung function testing equipment, calibrations of equipment and we will take full responsibility in managing the clinic, stocking medication, dispensing, fully provide with a professional OHNP and OMP .

 

Our onsite clinics can also be fitted with emergency equipment to provide lifesaving procedures at hazardous work sites, such as mines etc.

Training Programmes

 

SHE REP Training

These training are provided to ensure that all the health guides and risk precaution are followed in the workplace. This is to limit injuries in the workplace and raise awareness.

 

First Aid trainings

These training are held to educate the employees and the Health Representative about the use of First aid within the workplace. This is to ensure that employees have as much information and details as they could get of the first aid kit and the tools used.

Medical Surveillance

WHAT IS MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE?

 

The Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations 85 of 1993, defines medical surveillance as:

 

“A planned programme or periodic examination, which may include clinical examinations, biological monitoring or medical tests of employees by an occupational health practitioner or in prescribed cases, by an occupational medicine practitioner.”

 

The examination includes the implementation of baseline, periodic and exit medical examination. Medical surveillance are performed in accordance with the occupational risk profile:

 

Audiometry screening

This is a hearing test to evaluate the sensitivity of a person’s sense of hearing at different frequencies. This test is done using an audiometer.

 

Spirometry screening

This is a test that is used to help diagnose and monitor certain lung conditions by measuring how much air you can breathe out in one force. 

 

Vision screening

This is also known as an eye-test and it conducted to check the health of the eyesight, to check concentration levels and how well you can see.

 

Vital Signs

Vital signs are measurements of the body’s most basic function. The important signs that we check are:

  • Blood pressure
  • Pulse rate
  • Respiration rate
  • Height and Weight
  • BMI

 

Medical History

This is a questionnaire that the patient must take about their own medical history as well as diseases or sicknesses that are genetic such as Cancer and chronic diseases.

 

Work on Heights and Confined spaces

This is a questionnaire that the patient takes regarding their comfortability and ability to work on heights and confined spaces. After the questionnaire, a certificate is handed to them.

 

Urine Test

This test is done to check if the patient has any urine tract infection, kidney function and diabetes. It involves checking the concentration, appearance and content of urine.

 

Multi-Drug test

This is a test that is conducted to check any hard substances in the system using urine. In this test we are checking for the following drugs:

  • Amphetamine
  • Methamphetamine
  • Benzodiazepine
  • Cocaine
  • Marijuana
  • Opiates

 

Physical Examination

This is an examination where we check of any physical signs of a medical condition e.g., symptoms etc.

 

X- ray with report

This is a test that uses electronics to check functions inside the body to generate images of tissues and structure that cannot be seen physical by the examine
